It’s that time of year again when the time changes. Many alarm systems and CCTV systems automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time, some do not. Everyone should check their systems to see if they changed automatically after the time changes. The next day would be fine for checking. If the system shows the wrong time, this could effect many aspects of security. For example, if the alarm and cameras are different, you could waste time looking for footage in the wrong time span.

Most user manuals show how to change the time. If you don’t have a user manual or it doesn’t show you how, call your dealer. I’m sure they can talk you through it over the phone. If not, call us and we will take over your monitoring at our low price of $20 a month and take care of it for you!

Camera system time changes are more difficult and may take a visit from the dealer to correct. They are also more important since it matters when events happen. So don’t delay, check your security system for Daylight Savings Time today!

There is no easy answer to that question. Each door and situation is different and should be judged appropriately. We have a hierarchy of locks which we use to decide.

It is as follows:

1. Strikes are the first choice since they can be wired with the reader and contact causing less invasion of the walls or conduit.

2. Electrified lock hardware is second, but does require modification of the door.

3. Electrified trim is third because it usually costs more that electrified hardware and has to be special ordered for most locks.

4. Lastly, although not with most of the competition is the Mag lock. It’s arguably the easiest to install, but the least safe. It can lock people in if not properly installed and sometimes even then. It also requires extra safety devices that make them more expensive.
